In terms of exterior design, the new car adopts a "Gate of Time and Space" design language similar to the Yangwang U9, featuring an exaggerated C-shaped headlight assembly. The upper part houses the high and low beam lights, surrounded by a ring of LED strips. The plug-in hybrid version has a slimmer LED strip, while the pure electric version features a thicker one. The engine hood has prominent raised lines, giving the front end a strong visual impact, exuding an intimidating presence. The car is available in four colors: Lunar Silver, Argyle Purple, Obsidian Black, and Fluorite White.
From the side, the vehicle is equipped with large, low-drag alloy wheels, boasting sleek and flowing body lines that create a low, aggressive stance. A deflector design is incorporated into the front fender. The car features hidden door handles, with the charging port located at the rear left of the body. In terms of dimensions, the pure electric version measures 5,265 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width, and 1,517 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,160 mm. The plug-in hybrid version measures 5,360 mm in length, 2,000 mm in width, and 1,515 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,200 mm, positioning it as a large sedan.
At the rear, the car features a full-width taillight design, offering a high-tech aesthetic, with the Yangwang logo in the center. The multi-layered rear bumper, paired with an electrically adjustable spoiler, enhances the car's sporty appeal. The active spoiler automatically adjusts its position based on driving conditions. In automatic mode, it rises when the speed exceeds 130 km/h to increase downforce at the rear, improving stability and safety at high speeds. Below 80 km/h, it retracts to reduce drag. Users can also manually control the spoiler’s operation.
Inside, the interior, dubbed the "Star Ring Cockpit," draws inspiration from floating cosmic bodies and is available in Cloud锦 Red and Pearl Satin White. The center console features a symmetrical layout with a large vertical touchscreen flanked by embedded LCD instrument panels and a passenger entertainment screen, creating a blend of technology and style. The dual-tone color scheme, combined with chrome accents in various details, significantly enhances the car’s visual refinement.
For seating, the car offers options for four or five seats, upholstered in Nappa leather. The front seats support up to 20-way adjustments, including lumbar support, ventilation, heating, and hot stone massage functions. The four-seat version includes independent rear seats with a central armrest entertainment control screen, offering one-touch activation for reclining, paired with electric leg rests, headrests, and footrests for enhanced comfort. The car is also equipped with a Dynaudio sound system featuring 23 speakers, including a debut rotating tweeter unit—Dynaudio Star Swirl—that rises gracefully upon entry, adding a sense of ceremony.
In terms of power, the Yangwang U7 offers both pure electric and plug-in hybrid variants. The pure electric version features four electric motors with a total output of 1,306 horsepower, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and reaching a top speed of 270 km/h. It is equipped with high-performance blade batteries, supporting a maximum charging power of 500 kW and offering a CLTC range of 720 km. The plug-in hybrid version combines a 2.0T horizontally opposed engine with four electric motors, where the engine produces 245 horsepower and the motors deliver a combined 1,306 horsepower. It supports a maximum charging power of 210 kW, with a pure electric range of 200 km and a total range exceeding 1,000 km.
For intelligent driving, the car is equipped with the "Eye of the Gods" advanced driving assistance system, a high-speed navigation assist that doesn’t rely on high-definition maps. Based on cutting-edge end-to-end technology, it is available upon delivery and improves with use across the country. It offers robust perception and decision-making capabilities, enabling smart overtaking and lane changes. The hardware includes two NVIDIA Orin-X chips with a combined computing power of 508 TOPS, three LiDARs, five millimeter-wave radars, 13 high-definition cameras, and 12 ultrasonic radars, supporting L2+ advanced driving assistance and 120 km/h AEB emergency braking.
On the technology front, the car features the Yi Sifang four-motor architecture with dual-direction 20-degree intelligent rear-wheel steering and agile steering functions, achieving a turning radius of 4.85 meters. The upgraded U-turn function allows a quick turnaround in narrow spaces in 15 seconds, while parallel lateral movement and Yi Sifang parking are also supported.
The car is equipped with the Yunni-Z suspension system, replacing traditional hydraulic dampers with magnetic levitation motors for a balance of handling and comfort. Paired with Yi Sifang, it offers features like negative roll, road condition preview adjustments, vertical kinetic energy recovery, high-speed lateral stability, tire blowout stability, pitch suppression during acceleration/deceleration, and smooth handling over speed bumps. Additional capabilities include shoulder climbing assistance, single-side lift for collision avoidance, and emergency obstacle dodging, enhancing driving safety. The car also supports wheel-specific rotation, parallel movement, and rhythmic motion synced with music, though some features will be enabled via OTA updates.
◆ Competitors
With its launch, the Yangwang U7 will compete with German luxury sedans like the BMW i7 and Mercedes-Benz EQS, as well as domestic high-end models such as the Zunjie S800 and NIO ET9. Among the German contenders, the BMW i7 and Mercedes-Benz EQS have seen lukewarm sales, though their buyers differ from those of domestic new energy vehicles. However, during trade-ins, domestic luxury models might attract buyers with superior intelligent driving and infotainment systems. Among domestic rivals, the Zunjie S800 has maintained buzz since its debut, but as the first collaboration between JAC and Harmony Intelligence, many consumers remain cautious. The NIO ET9, with its crossover styling, doesn’t significantly differ from NIO’s other models, which might challenge its acceptance among this segment, though its pricing is competitive.
◆ Editorial Comment
In terms of design and performance, the Yangwang U7 is undoubtedly a standout in its class. The new energy era offers automakers greater room for innovation, challenging traditional luxury brands in design and performance. On paper, the U7 matches ultra-luxury brands, but breaking into this conservative market segment and convincing buyers to choose a domestic sedan priced over a million yuan requires both exceptional product strength and marketing. Notably, BYD Group Chairman and President Wang Chuanfu once said, “Traditional luxury is about the badge; new energy luxury is about technology,” reflecting strong confidence. Now, with the Yangwang U7 launched, its market performance remains to be seen. Let’s watch and wait.
